In 1946, a little band of masters who'd received spinal cord injuries on the battlefields of Europe and the Pacific all through World War II created a company called Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association. Wheelchairs were issued by the government to these heroes but they had little else: no suitable housing to reside in, no transport to go around in and no ramps to find yourself in the corner shop.

They worked together in those early years, and by 1948 they persuaded laws to be passed by Congress giving paraplegic veterans with one-time scholarships toward a wheelchair-accessible house and a specially equipped automobile. A few years later, some of those war veterans helped to publish the very first design standard requiring access for wheelchair users in new public buildings.

Selflessly, some 40 years later, their leaders lent their voices to the groundswell of support for the federal Fair Housing Amendments Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

After 60 years, our mission have been greatly expanded by our organization, now known as United Spinal Association, to incorporate all people with spinal cord problems national, but our dedication to veterans has never been stronger. For instance, last year we helped get important legislation passed that delivers much-needed traumatic harm insurance to your wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

We send qualified company officers directly to VA hospitals to find out what our veterans need and to help them apply for, and to get, their veterans benefits. We strongly represent their interests before the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C., and we sponsor numerous sport activities and athletic competitions to help injured veterans readjust to civilian life. We also helped fund two renowned back research services located at veterans hospitals.

With our roots operating to veterans, we've get to be the fastest-growing firm in the country focused on helping people with spinal-cord disabilities. crestview manor, inc
