One of the biggest hurdles people have when they want to travel may be the very high cost airfare. There are lots of countries on the planet that are cheap to travel in, but getting there can get expensive. If you could slash the cost of airfare by 50% or even 80% you would be able to travel a lot more often.

There are ways to get deeply discounted flight tickets. The traveler should get this to a priority as airline prices can be the traveler's single, biggest expense. Cut down on flight expenses whenever possible. When flights are cheap, traveling becomes much more viable.

For instance, recently I wanted to take my family from Lima, Peru to Las Vegas, Nevada. Through normal channels each ticket was priced at $1,000 to $2,500 at the time (therefore it would cost $4,000 to $10,000 just in round trip tickets for the four people).

I realized that most of the flights to Las Vegas stopped in Miami, Florida with connecting flights to Vegas. So searching the internet I sought out round trip tickets to Miami from Lima and located tickets for just $306. I quickly searched for round trip tickets from Miami to Las Vegas and located prices for only $227. That's a savings with a minimum of $467 for each individual. Since I was buying four tickets, the entire savings was at least $1,868 and as much as a savings of $7,868! Not only did we save lots of money and go to Vegas, but we visited Miami as an extra bonus.

Typically of thumb, the more you travel the cheaper it is. This is because your everyday expenses begin to off-set our prime initial cost of an airline ticket. Should you spend $1,000 on the plane ticket for any two-week vacation, that's pretty expensive. However, should you spend $1,000 on the ticket for a six-month vacation your overall expenses drop dramatically.

Besides using the standard travel agent there are websites, ticket consolidators and wholesalers who buy tickets in the airlines in bulk then sell them at a discount.

When asking about ticket prices always quote your spending limit low. Should you state that you'll need a cheap ticket, the agent may ask you the way much you're prepared to spend. Should you say "About $1,500" they'll look for a ticket for that price. Should you say $600 they'll probably look for a ticket for approximately that price too.

Always ask the agent if they have discount tickets going from point A to point B. Check at least ten different sources for price quotes before investing in a ticket.

Buy tickets online or from travel agents, usually not from the airline as airlines almost always charge more. about any hidden charges (taxes, cancellation charges, luggage fees and so forth). Also, when flying internationally, check with manchester international to ascertain if they charge a departure tax.

Here are a few guidelines to follow along with:

1) Book your flight at least one month ahead of time. 3 months in advance is better. Try to avoid high-season (December, January and sometimes June, July and August, it mostly depends on where you are going) as tickets tend to be more expensive during those times

2) Connecting flights are less expensive than nonstop flights. Sure, connecting flights take more time, but they'll help you save a lot more money

3) Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually the cheapest days to fly. Avoid flying on Friday through Monday. The costliest times to fly are between 9 am and 5 pm, so avoid them

4) Keep your travel dates as flexible as you possibly can to take advantage of the days using the lowest fares.

5) Always be sure to check for alternate airports. You are able to fly into or depart from a nearby airport, for instance, then take the bus to your destination (but make sure that your overall expenses are in fact cheaper)

6) Check a minimum of ten different sources, offline and online, prior to making an order

After some patience along with a search plan you can drastically reduce the cost of airfare any time you fly.
