New page

Nominated for 9 Emmys and 2 Golden Globes, Scrubs opened in Fall 2001 to moderate fanfare and a respectable Nielsen rating of #34. And even though the series has yet to attain blockbuster ratings, it's was able to create a loyal fan base specialized in its special model of quirky and humor characters. Created by Bill Lawrence (author of Spin City), Scrubs is just a spoof on the shortage of hospital dramas which have cropped up since the genre was popularized by ER. In if Ben Stiller were the lead character a sense, its what Greys Anatomy will be like.

Shot in an actual living hospital (North Hollywood Medical Center), Scrubs uses the bungling day-to-day activities of medical intern Dr. John J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff). Along with his school buddy Dr. Christopher Turk (Donald Faison), the 2 newcomers must learn the rules of everyday life in a true hospital setting. But Sacred Heart, their new stomping ground, may be the apex of a dysfunctional work place. One may possibly easily genuinely believe that everyones job is to dump on J.D. In getting his feet wet, the young intern butts heads with numerous figures such as fellow intern and potential love fascination Dr. Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), irritable Chief of Medicine Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins), the ever-abrasive Dr. Perry Cox (John H. McGinley), gloomy nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), and a sarcastic janitor (Neil Flynn).

Scrubs is really a character-driven show thats remarkably well-written, and the acting is superb. John C. McGinley is amazing in the position of Dr. Cox, a performance nearly as his depiction of consultant Bob Slydell as wonderful in A Workplace. His delivery is nearly as excellent as that of Ken Jenkins who usually resembles Lloyd Bridges from Airplane with his uncanny power to offer silly one-liners with a straight face. Seasoned advantages Sarah Chalke (Becky from Roseanne) and Donald Faison (Murray from Clueless) round out a great supporting cast for Zach Braff who makes his mark with this particular very likeable character. Ultimately, Scrubs is a situation comedy built on the effectiveness of biting sarcasm and clever humor. And although its already enjoyed an effective five-year work, its probably one of the most underappreciated comedies on network TV. Do yourself a, If you havent yet observed it and check it out. You wont be disappointed.
