It's very important to back up the website regularly so it can be fully restored if necessary. We generally back up the website at least once a month. A monthly reminder is sent from Outlook.com to digital@ccchislehurst.org.
Please follow these step to create a backup (Administrator rights required):
- Log in to the backend.
- Go to Compontents > Akeeba Backup.
- Click on the Backup Now icon.
- Check that Full Backup without large files is selected and then click on the Backup Now button.
- Wait till the progress page has inicated that the backup is complete. This should only take a few minutes.
- Send an email to digital@ccchislehurst.org that the backup has been completed.
Apart from creating a backup of the website, we need to regularly create a backup of the whole server, so that we can restore the whole server, e.g. in case the file system got corrupted. This backup is called snapshot. To create a snapshot:
- Log in to the 1&1 admin panel.
- Go to Server Administration.
- Select the VM and then Administration > Server Control.
- Select Shut Down Virtual Machine.
- Go back to the Server Administration and check that the VM is shut down.
- Select the VM and then Administration > Snapshot.
- Delete the current snapshot (only one can exist at one point in time).
- Create a new snapshot. This should only take a few minutes and the VM should start automatically once done.
