Website Backup

It's very important to back up the website regularly so it can be fully restored if necessary. We generally back up the website at least once a month. A monthly reminder is sent from Outlook.com to digital@ccchislehurst.org.

Please follow these step to create a backup (Administrator rights required):

1. Log in to the backend.
2. Go to Compontents > Akeeba Backup.
3. Click on the Backup Now icon.
4. Check that Full Backup without large files is selected and then click on the Backup Now button.
5. Wait till the progress page has inicated that the backup is complete. This should only take a few minutes.
6. Send an email to digital@ccchislehurst.org that the backup has been completed.

Apart from creating a backup of the website, we need to regularly create a backup of the whole server, so that we can restore the whole server, e.g. in case the file system got corrupted. This backup is called snapshot. To create a snapshot:

1. Log in to the 1&1 admin panel.
2. Go to Server Administration.
3. Select the VM and then Administration > Server Control.
4. Select Shut Down Virtual Machine.
5. Go back to the Server Administration and check that the VM is shut down.
6. Select the VM and then Administration > Snapshot.
7. Delete the current snapshot (only one can exist at one point in time).
8. Create a new snapshot. This should only take a few minutes and the VM should start automatically once done.
