When it comes to caring for a child, many parents are well aware of the need for program pediatrician sessions included in their baby's health care strategy. What's less well-recognized may be the importance that early and regular dental care plays. For optimum oral health, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) proposes that dental visits begin with the looks of a child's first tooth as an effective method to kick-start a lifelong program of preventive dental care.

One Baby Tooth + One Pediatric Dental Visit = Zero Cavities

"The 'first-tooth visit' lets the pediatric dentist check for proper oral and facial development, see if the teeth are growing in precisely, and recognize early tooth decay," says H. Pitts Hinson, president of the AAPD. "It also gives the dentist a chance to walk parents via a complete system of home dental treatments for the child."

Tooth decay, even yet in the earliest stages of life, can have significant implications for a long-term health and well-being-and it's becoming more of a problem every single day. A 15.2 percent increase was found by a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention comparing the dental health of Americans in 1988-1994 and 1999-2002 in cavities among two- to five-year olds. Additionally, the U.S. Surgeon General has identified tooth decay while the most typical childhood disease.

A possible contributor to the pattern may be the undeniable fact that only three out of five kiddies visit a dentist at least one time a year. While parents may avoid taking a to the dentist to save money, reports show that children who've their first dental visit before age one have 40 percent lower dental charges in their first five years than children who don't, making preventive care an audio health and financial decision.

Without preventive care, the effect of tooth decay on child development may be impressive. A report in Pediatric Dentistry showed that kids with cavities were significantly more prone to weigh less than 80 percent of these ideal bodyweight. Much more disturbing is evidence that the consequences of poor oral health might be felt for lifelong. Emerging research suggests that improper oral hygiene may increase a child's danger of having low-birth-weight children, developing cardiovascular disease or suffering a stroke being an adult.

No body is better-equipped to care for primary teeth than pediatric dentists. Pediatric dentists full two to three years of advanced level training after dental college, preparing them to handle the unique needs of infants, kiddies and adolescents-including those with special medical care needs. Getting the first dental visit in an office made for children prior to the onset of any tooth issues establishes confidence and trust in dental treatment in children that could carry over into adulthood. dental marketing
