Whenever we walk into the world of online romance it may appear to be we've slipped into another universe altogether, where we no longer contact humans but with mystery beings who solely have a very virtual presence.

But we aren't. We're talking to real people and social manners and etiquette, including from the dating kind, don't (or at least shouldn't) differ so greatly in the real world. Except that we don't have to worry (yet) about who's likely to foot the balance. It's just a couple having a chat, getting to know one another and seeing where things will go. That isn't so scary now, could it be?

As much as I personally don't like to state it according to contemporary heterosexual dating rules men, generally, should still take the lead. It is simply the way things roll. Therefore it could be the case that the few online dating strategies for men go a long way, and when you are feeling as if you take some then you've come to the best place!

1) Show initiative As with real life if you want someone, show it. Avoid over the top gestures and unwarranted declarations of love but through giving attention, showing interest and making that extra special effort. Don't leave it a time to reply to messages and don't be dismissive inside your response. Everyone knows that 'I've been busy at work' actually means 'I just couldn't be bothered'.

2) Time it right Once you've moved past the 'how's it going?' stage and decided you'd like to take things one step further make your move and ask to meet up. Get it done in good time; don't leave it too long or interest wanes and also the ship will sail. Remember internet dating should be used as a platform right into a real relationship, not as a substitute for it.

3) Make it personal Not every individuals are the same. Take the time to get to know your target and discover who they may be. Don't just lump someone into a category based on their sex, age, origin, occupation etc. etc. It bugs, and it will enable you to get nowhere.

4) Make it simple When you're planning your date ensure that it stays straightforward - asking someone you've not even met to go on a mini-break to Paris is not going to win any points. A drink is fine, dinner possibly. Or even just an easy walk along the river. Honestly, that's what is needed.

5) Make your choice, and stay with it Look around online go ahead and, but be subtle about this. Ice-breaker type messages are fine to start with but once you've decided who to go for start tailoring your approach accordingly (see 'keep it personal' above!). Dating in early stages needn't be exclusive however it should be considerate.

These online dating tips for males are intended to help have an online relationship on the right track. But most importantly be genuine, be respectful and become yourself; that's always a good option to start.
