Nominated for 84 Emmys and 13 Golden Globes, including 5 for Best TV Series - Drama in its first five years, NYPD Blue is one of many best primary time dramas in tv history. It is also among the most mentioned and controversial as well. Ahead of its line signature in Fall 1993, NYPD Blue found itself involved in a national debate surrounding proper TV programming and calls for government censorship. Their opening tagline "This police drama contains adult language and scenes with partial nudity. Viewer discretion is advised," caused a quite a stir before the public had even seen the initial episode. Family rights teams maligned the ABC network for airing the show, but when NYPD Blue turned out to be a delicate show by main-stream standards, the massive publicity only served to instantly launch the police drama to the most effective of the Nielsen ratings, where it lived out 12 effective months

NYPD Blue follows the exploits of a New York City Police Department device because they handle the high-stress trials and travails indicative of the world's most challenging police work. Through the show's 12 times, numerous characters transferred in and from the division, but Det. Andrew Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) was the one constant.
